Toxic smoke everywhere
So my story is a recent and ongoing situation with my back fence neighbour deciding to get himself a wood heater. We knew this was going to happen when we saw and heard a quite large amount of wood being chainsawed on the weekend and even that was annoying. Anyway, so the heater was installed, immediately fired up and yep smelly, toxic smoke everywhere.
I was and am not going to put up with this. And just to backtrack, the wood that was being chopped into smaller pieces was not even seasoned. It was left in two huge piles up against my back fence and the neighbour in the corner. It was left exposed to all the elements and yet this person thought that it was fine for burning. The amount of grey, smelly smoke was unbearable. I took to knocking on the door and was greeted by a lady who did not speak a word of English. She then called her daughter, and her and I exchanged words. I told her that the smoke was unacceptable and that the surrounding neighbours should not have to put up with the smoke.
I rang Council. I don’t know what they did but a letter was mentioned and I was told to contact again in two weeks. Two weeks passed and the smoke is still continuing. It even creeps into the house with everything closed. They run this heater 24/7.
This time the Council responded telling me they have passed my complaint to the Health Department and I have not heard anything this far.
Now the other issue is that this heater does not meet code. The flue is not high enough. They have sandwiched the flue between two roofs so when the smoke is coming out of the flue it is not being carried away; it is blowing onto their roof and blowing onto the neighbours next door. So I advised Council of this and was told they don’t get involved with codes and so forth. Like what???
Anyway the battle is still going. I will not have the use of my property taken away by uncaring and inconsiderate neighbours. These heaters should be banned Australia wide. The hypocrisy here is unbelievable. You can take someone to court because they blew cigarette smoke in your direction yet no one sees the misery and health issues these heaters are causing. Thanks for reading my story.
