This page explains our policies regarding the collection, use and disclosure of personal information we receive from users of our website.

The security of your personal information is important to us. We use SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) encryption for data sent from our website, and messages and information you send to us are not shared with third parties outside of DSAWSP, unless we have your permission to do so for a specific purpose.

However, no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use reasonable means to protect your personally identifiable information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

Information collection and use

Information you provide to us

Our website has forms that let you voluntarily submit personal information to us. This information may include, but is not limited to, your name and email address, and is used for purposes such as joining our mailing list, submitting a personal story to us or sending us a message.

For personal story submissions, we will not publish your name on our website unless we have your permission to do so, and we will never publish your email address. We ask for your email address so we can contact you to confirm your story, and clarify any questions we may have prior to including it on our website. We may use a brief excerpt of a story you submit to us outside of our website, such as in a social media post, for purposes of increasing awareness and educating about wood smoke.

We use MailChimp to collect information for maintaining our newsletter and emailing list. MailChimp, which is based in the USA, is an email address management and message sending service provided by MailChimp Inc. MailChimp’s privacy policy can be found on their website.

We may use the personal information that you voluntarily submit to us to contact you with newsletters or other information that may be of interest to you. You will always have the option to opt out of any and all future mailings using a link included in such mailings.

We do not sell or rent your information, and we do not use this information for advertising or marketing purposes.

Non-identifying server information

We have access to anonymized data that includes the general geographical areas our visitors come from and the search terms our visitors use to find us. This information cannot be used to identify you.

We use this information to gauge what content is most useful to our visitors to help guide continuing development of our website. We do not collect data for marketing or advertising purposes, and we do not link any data to identifying information that you might choose to submit to us.

Underage visitors

Our website is meant for adult visitors. We do not intentionally or knowingly collect or use information from users under 16 years of age.

As with most websites, we use cookies for some functions including browser caching to reduce how long it takes for pages to load when you visit our website repeatedly. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being set. However, if you do not accept cookies, it may affect how you experience some parts of our website. We do not place advertisements on our website and do not use cookies for purposes of tracking, advertising or marketing, but some providers of third-party embedded content may (see below).

Embedded third-party content

Some pages on our website include embedded content or functionality from third parties, and these services may set their own cookies and collect usage data in accordance with their own policies.

Embedded video content

Our content includes videos hosted by YouTube, which is owned by Google. Google’s privacy policy covers YouTube, and is available here. When possible, we embed YouTube videos using the “privacy enhanced” setting, which limits YouTube’s setting of cookies when you visit a page with a YouTube video. However, they may still set a cookie if you play the video.

We also embed videos hosted by Vimeo, whose privacy policy is here. Vimeo uses cookies.

Our videos are embedded using Embedly, which is owned by Medium. Embedly uses cookies, and its privacy policy is here.

Links to other websites

Our website contains links to other websites. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that website. These external websites are not operated by us. We have no control over, and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party sites or services.
