“Did you know that wood burning is the most polluting way to heat your home?”
That is a key message for Clean Air Night this year. Now in its third year, Clean Air Night is an annual awareness campaign organized by the UK’s Global Action Plan. The goal is to increase public awareness of the harm caused by wood burning.
It is taking place on January 22.
Global Action Plan states:
Wood burning produces fine particulate air pollution (PM2.5), which enters your bloodstream when inhaled and can cause heart and lung disease, as well as increasing your risk of diabetes and dementia.
Research shows that even homes using newer ‘eco design’ wood burners are three times more polluted than those without. And burning wood doesn’t just pollute your home – it pollutes your local community and harms the health of your neighbours.
We all want to stay warm this winter, but cosiness shouldn’t cost our health. This Clean Air Night, share the facts about wood burning with your friends and family.
We are again official supporters of Clean Air Night, along with over 60 other organizations, NHS trusts, and various government authorities from city councils to the government of Wales.
