For many years, the Humboldt Senior Resource Center in Humboldt County, California, raised money by holding annual firewood sales to senior citizens. They boasted about the thousands of cords of wood their sales contributed to the community.

In August 2017, our board chair explained in an op-ed in the Eureka Times-Standard why promoting wood heating for senior citizens is not a good idea.

We were glad to learn in 2020 that the Humboldt Senior Resource Center announced they were ending their annual firewood sales. Unfortunately, they have since been occasionally selling firewood again, although they are not selling as many cords each year as they used to.
