Until recently, the Humboldt Senior Resource Center in Humboldt County, California, raised money every year by selling firewood to senior citizens. They boasted about the thousands of cords of wood their sales contributed to the community.
Back when they were still insisting they would never stop doing this, our board chair explained in an op-ed in the Eureka Times-Standard why this was a bad idea.
We were glad to learn that the Humboldt Senior Resource Center has since discontinued its annual firewood fundraising program, although they still have been having occasional smaller firewood sales.
